The Maine Department of Education is committed to ensuring the rights of all Maine learners to access educational opportunities, including appropriate alternatives to regular day-school curricula.
How many homeschoolers are there in Maine? As of June 2020, the Maine Department of Education reported that there were 6,770 students between the ages of 6 and 17 enrolled as homeschooled students. Growth since 2005 has averaged about 4% per year, or more than 60% over the past fifteen years. However, growth in homeschooling between the years 2020-2023 has been much higher due to COVID related concerns.
